Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what happens to Your information when You visit Statlens ("the Website", "We", "Us", "Our"). Rewritten on the date above to describe what the Website actually does, rather than a generic template - Statlens has no user accounts, no purchases, and no forms that collect Your name, email, phone number, or address.
Who We Are
Statlens (accessible from https://www.statlens.net) publishes economic dashboards built from Eurostat's public statistics. You can reach Us at info@statlens.net.
What We Collect, and From Whom
You are never asked to create an account or submit personal information to use the Website. The only way Your personal data reaches Us directly is if You choose to email Us. Beyond that, the Cookies and third-party scripts below collect some information automatically, as described for each one.
Tracking Technologies and Cookies
Cookies can be "Persistent" (remain on Your device for a set period) or "Session" (deleted when You close Your browser). The specific Cookies and similar technologies currently in use on statlens.net are:
-
csrftoken (strictly necessary)
Type: Persistent Cookie
Administered by: Us (set directly by the Website's Django framework)
Purpose: Protects forms on the Website against cross-site request forgery. Required for the Website to function; does not track You across sites and is not used for advertising or analytics.
-
Google Analytics
Type: Persistent Cookies (e.g.
_ga,_ga_*)Administered by: Google
Purpose: Measures how visitors use the Website (pages viewed, time on page, general location) so We can understand and improve it. Not used to serve You ads. Currently set on every visit; the Website does not yet have a cookie consent mechanism in place (see below).
-
Facebook Share Button (Meta)
Type: Persistent Cookies
Administered by: Meta Platforms, Inc.
Purpose: Loaded to provide the Facebook share button on dashboard pages. Meta may set Cookies via this script per its own privacy policy. Currently loaded on every visit; the Website does not yet have a cookie consent mechanism in place (see below).
-
Twitter/X Share Button
Type: Persistent Cookies
Administered by: X Corp.
Purpose: Loaded to provide the Twitter/X share button on dashboard pages. X may set Cookies via this script per its own privacy policy. Currently loaded on every visit; the Website does not yet have a cookie consent mechanism in place (see below).
-
Google AdSense (not yet active)
Type: Persistent Cookies
Administered by: Google
Purpose: We plan to display advertising served by Google AdSense in the future. Once active, Google may set Cookies for ad delivery, frequency capping, and fraud prevention, and - where You've consented to ad personalization - for personalized ads. This section will be updated with the specifics once ads go live.
The Website does not currently show a cookie consent banner, and there is no "Cookie preferences" control in the footer. Except for the strictly necessary csrftoken Cookie, the Cookies described above are set on every visit rather than gated on Your choice. This section will be updated, together with the mechanism itself, once a consent banner is reinstated.
Sharing a dashboard or chart also lets You capture and upload an image of it, so the link You share carries a real preview instead of a generic logo. That image is stored on Our servers (or Ours via a cloud storage provider) under a random identifier - it is not linked to You or Your visit in any way We can trace back to You.
Usage Data
Beyond the Cookies above, Our hosting infrastructure records the same technical information any web server does automatically: Your IP address, browser type, the pages You request, and the time of each request. This is used for operating and securing the Website (for example, diagnosing an error) and is not linked to an identity.
Advertising
We intend to display third-party advertising on the Website through Google AdSense. No ads are served today - the account is prepared but no ad units are placed on any page. Once ads go live, Google and its advertising partners may use Cookies and similar technologies (see above) to serve ads, measure their performance, and - only with Your consent - personalize them based on Your visits to this and other websites.
Google requires a certified consent management platform, compliant with the IAB Europe Transparency & Consent Framework, to be in place before ads are served to visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland. This Website does not have one in place yet, which is part of why ads are not yet active; this section will be updated once that changes.
You can opt out of personalized advertising generally at adssettings.google.com, or learn more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Who We Share Data With
We do not sell Your personal information. The only parties who receive anything are the ones already named above - Google (Analytics and, once live, AdSense), Meta and X (the share buttons), and Our hosting/cloud infrastructure provider, each processing data under their own privacy policy as a service provider to Us. We may also disclose information where required by law, such as in response to a valid request from a court or public authority.
Where Your Data Is Processed
The third parties named above (Google, Meta, X) are based outside the European Economic Area, so information they collect may be processed there. Each maintains its own safeguards for this (such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses) under its own privacy policy, linked from that party's own site.
Your Rights
If data protection law in Your country gives You rights over Your personal data, they typically include the right to: access the data held about You, correct it, request its erasure, restrict or object to its processing, and receive a copy of it in a portable format. Because the Website does not hold an account or profile tied to You, most of these apply only to information You've sent Us directly, such as an email - contact Us at info@statlens.net for any of these. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with Your national data protection supervisory authority at any time.
Security
The security of Your Personal Data is important to Us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While We strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect Your Personal Data, We cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Children's Privacy
Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13. If You are a parent or guardian and You are aware that Your child has provided Us with Personal Data, please contact Us and We will take steps to remove it.
Links to Other Websites
Our Service links to other websites that are not operated by Us - Eurostat (Our data source), the social networks the share buttons point at, and Google's own pages linked above. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content or privacy practices of any site We link to; We strongly advise You to review each site's own privacy policy.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any change will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date above. You are advised to review this page periodically for changes; continued use of the Website after a change is posted means You accept it.
